On a contract basis, the Music Therapist will plan, implement, and assess music therapy in a support group setting for ~5-15 adults affected by mental illness who are legally involved (charged or convicted) with the Cleveland Municipal Court – Mental Health Docket. Recipients of music therapy services have been previously screened by NAMI GC for readiness to participate in a support group. The group will be co-facilitated by the NAMI GC Lead Peer Support Specialist and Court Peer Support Specialist.

The goal of music therapy services is to allow support group participants an opportunity to safely and constructively channel emotions into music, thereby helping participants to cope with stress, build self-esteem, and connect positively with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, training, and certification as a music therapist.

Experience in planning and administering music therapy.

Experience working with mental health patients, substance abuse patients, and/or incarcerated individuals is highly desirable.

Music therapy is to take place once monthly on a Friday between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the NAMI Greater Cleveland’s offices at the ADAMHS Board of Cuyahoga County, February through December 2020.

Must be willing to work with charged or convicted adult individuals with mental illness and often co-occurring substance abuse conditions.

The Music Therapist collaborates and coordinates with the NAMI GC Lead Peer Support Specialist and Court Peer Support Specialist to deliver therapy.
