PART-TIME PAID OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE 2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR 

IN CLEVELAND, OH, MEMPHIS, TN, NEWARK, NJ and  

GREENWICH & STAMFORD, CT 

Art empowers children to explore, observe, and engage with the world around them. We believe that artists and arts communities bring a unique perspective and a special ability to nurture the creative spirit of young people.   

Studio Institute (Studio) partners with community organizations to help young people develop their creative vision and artistic skills through visual arts workshops led by professional artists. 

As a Studio artist instructor, you may work with children and young people at early learning centers, schools, or libraries, fostering individual, family, and community engagement in arts learning. 

You will receive paid, formal training in our methodology, and opportunities to meet and share experiences (virtually) with Studio artists working in other cities. Please note that Studio Institute artist instructors are part-time employees. Work can fluctuate based on season and artist availability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 

  • Facilitate workshops and residencies that are developmentally appropriate, focus on student-centered learning, and build social emotional skills in addition to visual arts learning goals 
  • Participate in Studio artist community by attending paid meetings and trainings for Studio Institute 
  • Create outlines and lesson plans that embody the goals of Studio Institute’s program 
  • Share outlines with Studio Institute staff, classroom teachers, and school administration 
  • Communicate with Studio Institute and school staff regarding all aspects of programing 
  • Travel to and teach in-person at all types of schools and community settings across the city 
  • Flexibility to shift to virtual instruction and/or creating pre-recorded teaching segments, depending on COVID protocols and policies of assigned schools and community settings 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in visual arts, education, or arts-related field or equivalent experience required 
  • Active professional visual art practice required, as demonstrated through the sharing of professional works, website, and/or artist resume 
  • Foundational skills in painting, drawing, and/or sculpture necessary 
  • Demonstrated ability to teach diverse populations, ages, and abilities of students in a school or community setting 
  • Experience and understanding of working with early childhood students (ages 3-5 years) a plus; required for work in Newark, NJ and Greenwich & Stamford, CT 
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with a range of diverse partners and local stakeholders, such as students, classroom teachers, school administrators, and Studio Institute staff 
  • Interest in and capacity for developing and implementing sequenced instructional plans 
  • Reliable transportation and a willingness to travel and teach in-person at various settings  
  • Willingness to attend meetings, trainings, and complete paperwork in addition to teaching classes 
  • Meet background check requirements and receive fingerprint clearance 

Studio Institute requires all employees to be fully vaccinated (including booster vaccination) for COVID-19 prior to starting work, unless precluded from doing so by applicable law. Proof of vaccination is required prior to applicant’s first day of work. 

Pay rates start at $35/hour. Pay rates are commensurate with location and experience.
