ABOUT THE SHOW

Edward Bloom has lived a full and magical life, populated by witches, giants, and mermaids, marked by true love that stops time in its tracks, and framed by heroics that push the limits of believability. His adult son, Will, is no longer amused by his father’s fantastical tales, insisting on a rational rather than a fantastical account of one’s life. When Edward’s health declines, and Will learns that he and his wife, Josephine, will have a son of their own, Will decides to find out his father’s “true” life story, once and for all. Big Fish is a heartfelt, powerful, and truly magical musical about parents and their children, and the tales that we use to define our identities and leave behind as part of our legacy. Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, Big Fish tells a spectacular and fantastical story that is overflowing with love.

ABOUT THE AUDITION

Please arrive 15 minutes early to register. Auditions begin promptly at the designated time. Anyone arriving after the starting time will be asked to audition at the next scheduled day.

Near West Theatre holds group auditions in a relaxed and friendly environment. No preparation or preregistration is required. Actors of all experience levels are led through multiple improvisational exercises providing every participant equal opportunity to create through word, movement, and song. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes for dancing so you can move easily. Auditions focus on the creative process, not the product; on working as an ensemble, not solo. After this first level audition, callbacks will focus on individual roles/songs and working from the script.
