Each year, talented Northeastern Ohio music students in grades 7-12 (ages 13-18) audition for the opportunity to perform a concerto movement with the Suburban Symphony. For many, it is their first opportunity to perform with a full symphony orchestra. This tradition has been in place since the orchestra began, and is an essential part of the orchestra’s purpose. Many concerto winners, including pianist Orion Weiss and Cleveland Orchestra members Eliesha Nelson and Diane Mather, have gone on to distinguished professional careers.

Neige DeAngelis, 17, is a junior at Westlake High School. She began playing violin at age 6, and she currently studies with Amy Lee. She has also studied with Eugenia Poustyreva, Dr. Julian Ross, and Peter Otto. Neige is the principal second violin of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and has also served as its assistant concertmaster. She won 2nd place in the Lakeland Civic Orchestra Young Artist Competition in 2018 and 2019. She won the Toledo Symphony Young Artist Competition and soloed with the Toledo Symphony in March 2019. She won the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition and soloed with the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra in 2017. Neige attended the Jacobs School of Music Summer String Academy at Indiana University in 2019, and she served as concertmaster of their chamber orchestra. Outside of music, Neige is a varsity athlete in tennis and a junior varsity swimmer and lacrosse player. When she is not in school or practicing violin, she is an avid member of Best Buddies, an international organization dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities.

Moshi Tang, now 16, fell in love with music before he could speak and started his first violin lesson at three and a half. Currently, he studies violin with Joan Kwuon (CIM & Colburn) and Sonata Duo with Carolyn Warner (TCO & CIM). Previously, he has studied with Liesl Langmack and Elizabeth Faidley. He also studies music theory, composition and piano with Alissa Shuster. Moshi is an avid chamber music player and has played violin, viola, and piano in chamber ensembles for more than seven years. He has been a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra since he was 12 and has been concertmaster since he was 14. He has participated in the National Youth Orchestra 2 last summer. Moshi has been winner of several local competitions such as the CIM preparatory Concerto Competition, the Lakeland Civic Orchestra Young Artist Concerto Competition, the Sigma, Alpha, Iota Strings Competition, as well as the Junior division of Carl E. Baldassarre Composer-Performer Competition at CIM. He was also a runner-up of the COYO concerto competition in 2019. He has soloed with the Erie Philharmonic Orchestra, The Lakeland Civic Orchestra, and the Euclid Symphony. He has been accepted to summer music programs with scholarships, such as the Indiana String Academy, the Heifetz Institute, and the Bowdoin International Music Festival. Moshi is a 10th grade student at Hawken school. His favorite subjects are French, science, and history. Besides school and music, Moshi is passionate about playing soccer and solving Rubik’s Cube at speed.

Marina Ziegler began piano study at the age of four with her mother. At the age of five, Marina started her violin education at the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), where she studied with Stephen Sims and Eugenia Poustyreva. Marina has also trained with Isabel Trautwein from the Cleveland Orchestra and currently she is a student of David Bowlin at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.

Marina performs for church services regularly and volunteers her time at local charity organizations such as Stewart’s Caring Place, a Akron-based cancer wellness center.  Marina has a home studio where she teaches beginning piano students and enjoys sharing her knowledge and love of music. When she is not practicing piano or violin, Marina enjoys photography and she is a sophomore at Copley High School in Copley, Ohio.
