Federico Fellini’s first film (he was actually co-director) stars Peppino De Filippo, Carla Del Poggio, and Fellini’s wife Giulietta Masina. It charts how the rise of a beautiful and ambitious young dancer upsets the equilibrium within a third-rate, traveling vaudeville troupe. Felliniesque in its fondness for small-time performers of dubious talents, the film has never before been shown at the Cinematheque. New restoration! Cleveland revival premiere. Subtitles. 97 min.
