Twelve Literary Arts Performances

The theme of all of this art is inspired by the authors of books and/or poems that have won the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award. This award recognizes books that have made important contributions to our understanding of racism and human diversity. Every artist that has done work for the INTER|URBAN project has studied specific literature by the award winning authors and then based their art on those selections. In addition to murals and art on trains we have incorporated other programming into the project. We work with a group called Twelve Literary Arts, an incredible organization that brings performance poetry to public spaces. We have hired them to perform the books/poetry that inspired the art of INTER|URBAN on RTA platforms in the past. This year, the plan is to move their performance from the RTA platforms to the sidewalks outside of independent books stores in Cleveland’s neighborhoods in an effort to reach event more Clevelanders.
