Through Their Eyes is an opportunity for youth to sound-off or experience their opinions about social problems in society. Adults generally set the stage and have ultimate control over expressing their opinion about societal issues and decisions made by our leaders. Youth, however, are seldom consulted or involved in the decision-making processes, but these decisions affect them and their future. Through Their Eyes provides a foundation for youth express their opinions and ideas about issues in society that impact them.
Middle school youth enrolled in our Working On Me program and from there participants engaged in a six-month process of workshops centered around photography, research, self-expression, business, photovoice, charity, political correctness, and environmental and social responsibility. Middle school youth were targeted because, like the “middle child” in families they are often overlooked, this program and this project gives them a platform to address critical issues and make an impact in lives of their peers.
