The Ten Commandments (1923)

Presented by Cleveland Institute of Art and The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque at The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque, Cleveland OH

Jun 11 2023
The Ten Commandments (1923)

Cecil B. DeMille’s little-known silent version of The Ten Commandments was the highest grossing film of 1923.

100th Anniversary!

USA, 1923, Cecil B. DeMille

Surprisingly, only half of this “Biblical epic” is a dramatization of the Exodus story (though it’s as spectacular as the 1956 remake). The other half is a modern-day tale of two brothers—one a saint who follows the commandments, the other a sinner who does not. “Good entertainment in the best DeMille style.” –Leonard Maltin’s Classic Movie Guide. Recorded music track. Blu-ray. 136 min.

ADMISSION INFO

General admission is $11; members, CIA & CSU I.D.holders, and those age 25 & under $8.

As a reminder, filmgoers can park for free in Lot 73 and in the Institute’s annex lot, and should enter CIA via nearby Entrance C. Click here for a map.
