Taste of Flamenco Workshop

Alice Blumenfeld is known for a unique and “fierce presence (her movements seem to arise from several feet beneath the ground)” (Thinking Dance) and her “sharp and exhilarating” energy onstage (Philadelphia Inquirer). Blumenfeld is the founder and artistic director of ABREPASO flamenco. The company’s name reflects her vision for flamenco; Abrepaso means to break open space and forge new pathways. As Executive and Artistic Director, she guides the nonprofit organization in deepening community appreciation for flamenco and creating original choreographies, all the while creating new entry points into and new pathways within the art form, building cross-cultural understanding and community through flamenco education.

Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center, in collaboration with moCa Cleveland, and artist Alice Blumenfeld of Abrepaso Flamenco presents a workshop to learn the basics of this rich tradition and dance. We invite you to come and dance with us.

Experience flamenco through an immersive journey encompassing dance, music, writing, and visual arts. Delve into the poignant Soleá style, the foundation of all flamenco forms, crafting your own movements within its expressive realm. This initiative provides a gateway into Soleá even for those unversed in dance, creating an inclusive sphere for all to encounter its potency and convey the sentiments kindled by its melodies. The workshop, designed to bridge generations and disciplines, fosters an environment for individuals to rekindle their dignity and foster connections within the community.

All skill levels welcome. Registration is required for this event. We ask for a donation of any amount per ticket to reserve your space and support ongoing programming at moCa.
