Located in Cleveland at 6901 Woodland Avenue and established in 1853, it became the city’s main public cemetery after its founding and remained so for the next half-century. However, Woodland fell into extreme disrepair and most of its outstanding architectural features were dismantled or demolished. In 1986, Woodland Cemetery was added to the National Register of Historic Places, and has since undergone substantial restoration.
The tour includes some fascinating history of the cemetery, including the Underground Railroad, and an opportunity to purchase items from CRS and the Woodland Cemetery Foundation Store. Click here to purchase our book: The Making of Cleveland’s Black Suburb in the City: Lee-Seville & Lee-Harvard. Click here to go to the Woodland Cemetery Foundation Store.
