She Scores Opening Concert

The Local 4 Music Fund proudly presents the 4th annual She Scores concert series from May 30th through June 2nd, 2024, showcasing works by today’s living female-identifying and nonbinary composers. Join us as we highlight this underrepresented sector of the contemporary musical world.

Featured Composers: Nora Farley, Ellen Ruth Harrison, Sum Yee Lee, Katelyn Marcelli, Yan Pang, Kirsten Strom, devon osamu tipp, Mickie Wadsworth

A 2019-20 study found that only 8% of works performed by leading American orchestras were composed by women. She Scores provides an important platform, promoting the creative talents of composers too often overlooked due to gender disparities. Launched in 2021 to raise awareness of inequities in composition and performance, She Scores has become an anticipated annual tradition. The series aims to cultivate a more equitable regional arts community by celebrating exceptional female and nonbinary musical voices.

These composers offer inventive brilliance and unique storytelling perspectives deserving of recognition alongside contemporary music’s most celebrated names. Admission is free to this extraordinary evening of artistry, made possible by generous support from Cuyahoga Arts and Culture, the Gund Foundation, the Bascom Little Fund, Ohio Arts Council, and the Music Performance Trust Fund.
