RubyFruit Art Reception

“RubyFruit” includes art Josie B. Krampitz (Cleveland) made throughout earning their Bachelors in Fine Arts, as well as 5 new pieces that they made in the following 4 months. The works presented represent a search for stability, while simultaneously realizing that everything will be in flux for the foreseeable future. From leaving evangelical circles, to entering the pandemic and growing into their gender identity, “Ruby Fruit” is rooted in deeply personal works of self-validation, displayed with the intention to encourage other people to tell their whole story.

Krampitz seeks to work through taboos in and outside of the queer community, as admittedly a newcomer to presenting openly queer. The art presented is meant to represent an openness to change, from a mind that is constantly trying to make sense of things. However, sometimes things just are. No matter how much you analyze or try to walk on egg shells–life is still happening, and its almost always messy. “RubyFruit”, a title inspired by Rita Mae Brown’s book “RubyFruit Jungle”, embraces the messiness.
