Ohio Open Doors

As part of the Ohio Open Doors, a ten-day celebration of Ohio historic buildings and landmarks, the Lake View Cemetery and ICA-Art Conservation present a special lecture on the Michael Sarisky murals in the James A. Garfield Memorial.

In 1952, the Garfield Monument Association hired four local artists to add paintings of the life of President Garfield to the lunettes in the entryway foyer. ICA’s Paintings Conservator, Wendy Partridge, will talk about her treatment from 2008 on Sarisky’s painting Garfield Takes the Oath.

Come and learn about the Garfield Memorial, art conservation, and the importance of protecting our cultural treasures “alive” for generations to come.
