Medieval Girdle Book Workshop

Working with wood and leather students will sew a book on linen cords using a sewing frame, lace in wooden boards, and cover with leather. We’ll also examine the different styles of girdle books from different parts of Europe, and the times frames in which they were popular. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with clasps and closures, and, time permitting, tooling on leather. Some bookbinding experience is helpful, but not required.
