United States | 2020 | Sky Hopinka
The first feature by Native American video artist Sky Hopinka (the title is pronounced “moth-nee”) is a meditative experimental film in which two Chinook men traverse stunningly photographed Pacific Northwest landscapes while musing on birth, death, rebirth, the afterlife, and humanity’s place in the universe. According to New York Times art critic Holland Cotter, “It rivals in visual and linguistic beauty any new art I’ve seen in some time.”
