Janáček’s fun and frenetic chamber concerto has an animal theme, variously evoking a grumpy hedgehog, a fidgety squirrel, and “a scene from a fairy-tale, where everybody is arguing.” Possibly the greatest French piano trio of the 19th century, Saint-Saëns’ musical fireworks and subtle, searching harmonies are guaranteed to leave every listener with a smile.
