ADMISSION INFO

See two shows for only $40* and get discounts on restaurants and more with this great package deal perfect for dance lovers or a day out with family, friends or that special someone.

First, experience GroundWorks DanceTheater at 3 pm at The Akron Civic Theatre performing a unique work by Pittsburgh-based choreographer Pearlann Porter to live music titled “The Visual Sound of Color.” The world premiere work utilizes Porter’s signature “postmodern-jazz improvography” movement style and innovative lighting concepts that illuminate the dancers only in designed fields, bands, and gradients of 3-dimensional color. Also on the program will be the world premiere of the staged version of GroundWorks’ Executive Artistic Director David Shimotakahara’s dance film “Transcendence” (2022), incorporating both film and live performance. The work takes its inspiration from French composer Olivier Messiaen’s poignant masterwork, “Quartet for the End of Time.”

Then, in between performances, take time to check out the free Akron Art Museum or grab a bite at El Patron Tequileria & Cuisine to receive 10% off your order by showing one of your tickets!

Then keep the evening going at The University of Akron’s EJ Thomas Hall for a fabulous performance of New-York-based Gibney Company presented by DANCECleveland at 7:30 pm. The company will perform three works including “Oh Courage,” by Tony Award-winning choreographer Sonya Tayeh of So You Think You Can Dance fame, set to music by The Bengsons, alongside the Midwest premiere of Johan Inger’s “Bliss,” with music by American Jazz legend Keith Jarret and an energetic dynamic trio titled “Lusus Naturae” choreographed by Dance Magazine featured Cover Artist, Rena Butler whose work “Sheep’s Gothic” GroundWorks DanceTheater premiered this summer!
