Emerging Black Choreographers Incubator

Mojuba! Dance Collective is hosting an Emerging Black Choreographer Incubator that will cultivate the next generation of dance voices and advocate for the sharing of bold, new works.  The Incubator will consist of three phases that will address the identified needs of emerging choreographers through a systematic approach focused on Preparation, Process and Performance. Cohort participants will receive training through a mix of dance labs, online seminars, live performances, discussions and hands on workshop experiences.

The choreographers selected to participate in the cohort will be given the introductory skills to:

• Call into question mainstream culture and beliefs
• Understand the technical components (video, lighting, sound, etc.) of presenting works for professional stages and social media
• Gain a greater appreciation for Black dance culture and history
• Brand, market and enter the dance business
• Use dance to build community and increase wellness
• Implement tools and strategies for dance making

The cohort experience will take place from October 7th thru November 24th, culminating in a choreographer’s showcase February 21st-February 23rd, 2020 during the Mojuba! Black Dance Fest.
