Cleveland Repertory Orchestra presents "Symphony for Ferguson"

The CRO will feature mezzo-soprano Kira McGirr singing the gorgeous Sea Pictures of Edward Elgar. Also on the program will be music by American composers Jessie Montgomery and Barbara Harbach. The program opens with Montomgery’s Overture, “a fusion between jazz and American classical harmonies, Baroque rhythmic gestures, and polyphonic tension,” and concludes with Harbach’s Symphony No. 10, “Symphony for Ferguson.” Harbach, a composer based in St. Louis, wrote the work in response to the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014 in an attempt to find meaning, acceptance, and peace during that troubled time.
