CityMusic Presents: "Festive Sounds"

German conductor Stefan Willich returns to conduct CityMusic Cleveland’s holiday concert, featuring works by Mozart, Neruda, Puccini, and Verdi. Soprano Chabrelle Williams and trumpeter Jack Sutte, from The Cleveland Orchestra, will join him as soloists.

Even though this year CityMusic made the leap towards a conductorless format, with a series of successful concerts in September, Stefan Willich has guest conducted the orchestra since 2015, and this year will be no exception. The orchestra will tackle all-time favorites, including Mozart’s 40th Symphony and his Overture to Marriage of Figaro, Puccini’s O mio babbino caro, and Neruda’s Trumpet Concerto. Jack Sutte will be using a special instrument for this piece: “This joyous and charming Concerto,” he explains, “is a musical gem from a little-known Czech composer. Instead of an E-flat trumpet, I’ll be using the unique Schilke E-flat cornet.” Chabrelle Williams, on the other hand, has a history with CityMusic that extends back eight years: “CityMusic was the organization to give me my very first professional opportunity as an opera singer,” she recounts. “This is going to be a fun program and I look forward to bringing some of opera’s favorite heroine’s to life and sharing some holiday cheer with the Cleveland community.”
