Boxing the Book

Boxing the Book workshop:
Boxmaking is a handy technique, whether you’re submitting a book for an exhibition or protecting a family heirloom. During this one day workshop, you will learn how to make a simple clamshell box that only requires your hands, some bricks, and minimal tools. You will go home with a box, as well as an understanding of basics such as grain direction, material selection and preparation, knife holding etiquette, and more.

About the instructor:
​Cris Clair Takacs lives and works in Chardon, OH with her husband Bob, two cats and a corgi. Cris is the owner of Books Bound & Repaired and has been restoring books for over 30 years specializing in 19th century binding, children’s books, pop-up books, and ephemera for collectors and book dealers. Her design bindings have been featured in exhibits and are in private and university collections. Cris has been a member of the Guild of Book Workers since 1986 and has helped many offices in the organization.
