A Midsummer Night's Dream

Chagrin Arts, in partnership with The City of Solon, is pleased to announce the return of live Shakespeare in the Valley  with William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  The production features a new translation through Play On Shakespeare by playwright Jeffrey Whitty. Performances are Saturdays and Sunday, August 6 and 7, and August 13 and 14 beginning at 7:30 pm, and will take place at Solon Community Park located at 6679 SOM Center Road in Solon. Under the direction of Derdriu Ring, with

music direction by Marge Adler, the show features live music performed by the talented cast, superbly designed costumes designed by April Rock and some not so typical fairies (our fairies are recycling fiends and will use anything you leave behind in the woods of Solon), this will be a production of the beloved work like no other.  This is the fourth year Chagrin Arts has produced Shakespeare in the Valley and the third year it has collaborated with Play On Shakespeare, a non- profit company promoting and creating contemporary modern translations of Shakespeare’s plays. While audiences have embraced this story of love and fairies for centuries, it truly resonates today. As the Director Derdriu Ring  says “In January 1605, William Shakespeare wrote a play about a young woman who is told she has no choice by the King’s Court of Athens. In July 2022 the Supreme Court of America tells a young woman the same thing. Thankfully Shakespeare gave us an ending where she does get to choose. Come revel and dream of a better outcome for us all in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, beautifully adapted for a modern audience by Jeff Whitty.”

On Sunday August 7 at 5:30 pm there will be a special pre-show conversation with Lue Douthit, Play On Shakespeare and Director  Derdriu Ring in the Park Pavilion. Tickets are $40 and include refreshments (heavy hors d\’oeuvres, wine/beer, and dessert). Bring your lawn chair and save your space near the stage for the 7:30 performance.
