DIRECTOR OF INDIVIDUAL AND CORPORATE GIVING
Founded in 1953, Center for Arts-Inspired Learning (CAL) is NE Ohio’s leading arts education organization. With a budget of $1.9 million, CAL provides more than 6,500 programs to youth each year in schools, libraries, and other community centers. Working with artists in music, dance, theater, visual and digital arts, CAL delivers programs that teach arts disciplines and are integrated into the core curriculum. CAL’s large-scale programs include 1) ArtWorks, an arts-based youth development program that hires 180 high school students each year to work in the arts while learning skills needed to graduate high school and attend college or attain future jobs and 2) teaching artist professional development. In 2017, CAL moved to University Circle to open the Inspiration Center, a community center for the arts for neighborhood youth.
CAL is seeking a dynamic and innovative Director of Individual and Corporate Giving to design and lead fundraising efforts that include annual fund, major gifts, endowment and planned gifts, and special events. S/he focuses on the outreach and cultivation of individuals throughout the community and strengthens the organization’s position and relationships with donors. S/he works closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to realize annual and long-term goals of CAL. The Director of Individual and Corporate Giving collaborates with the Director of Grants and reports to the Executive Director.
This position will help strengthen the approach and structure of our giving program and will be responsible for raising funds through a variety of methods, including direct appeals and online fundraising initiatives. Building relationships with current donors (individual and corporate) and securing their renewed support, as well as identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new prospects for annual support will be critical for success.
- Evaluate current strategies and stewardship practices for CAL’s annual fund; implement processes to expand an individual giving and major gifts program to reach and/or exceed annual budget goal
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit annual, major, and special gift prospects. This will include working with existing donors as well as initiating new relationships with prospects with high capacity
- Enhance annual campaigns to corporate, endowment, and planned giving prospects. Meet or exceed annual goals
- Create and execute a comprehensive plan for each donor/prospect in the database that ensures donor retention and advancement. Establish individual goals for each major gifts prospect
- Identify and research new prospects – individual and corporate – for solicitation, based on capacity and interest
- Strengthen the commitment of current donors through individual meetings, site visits, phone calls, office visits, special mailings and other relationship-building correspondence and activities
- Maintain regular communication with prospects/donors through face-to-face meetings, phone calls and written correspondence
- Collaborate with staff and Board of Directors to cultivate donor engagement and stewardship opportunities through fundraising or cultivation events
- Coordinate with Marketing Manager on development materials to be used in appeals and stewardship efforts; personalize content as needed to reflect specific donor interests and programmatic priorities
- Collaborate with Marketing Manager on communication strategies via email, social media and direct mail to keep donors informed of CAL successes, events, and future plans
- Oversee Development Associate to track portfolio activity, progress and action items in Salesforce constituent profiles
- Collect appropriate data and generate reports that accurately reflect portfolio activity and performance towards goals
- Conducts analysis and assess performance to identify opportunities and inform the strategic plan
- Design, coordinate, and manage special events, with the assistance of the Development Associate, including donor recognition, cultivation, and fundraising events
- Collaborate with Board of Directors and other volunteers on all fundraising activities including annual campaigns, special events, and stewardship
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a fundraising role
- Proven track record of developing and implementing strategies for growth, managing relationships and closing gifts
- Experience planning and managing cultivation and fundraising events
- Effective networker with excellent leadership, presentation and communication skills
- Outstanding team contributor in a multi-cultural environment
- Strong written skills, with proven ability to develop compelling case for support, including effective letters, proposals, reports and appeals
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Experience with Salesforce or other CRMs a plus
