Job Summary

The Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), a $20 million non-profit higher education institution, seeks an experienced leader for the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Reporting directly to the VP & Chief Operations Officer, the CTO is responsible for providing leadership, vision, oversight and management for all aspects of Information Technology at CIM.  S/he will provide a comprehensive, strategic vision for IT that will align and enhance CIM’s strategic plan: Blue Print 100. In addition to being responsible for a strategic vision, the CTO must have the appropriate knowledge of technology to manage day-to-day operations, while not losing sight of CIM’s creativity in education and pedagogy.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

Institutional and budgetary responsibilities

 

·         Build a consensus for the Institute’s IT vision and lead all aspects of the Institute’s technological development.

·         Direct the Institute’s strategic technological direction and development.

Develop a system strategy in support of CIM’s management team.
·         Work in a consultative and collaborative fashion with other department heads as an advisor on technologies that will improve their efficiency and effectiveness.

·         Provide IT leadership to employees in a fashion that supports the Institute’s culture, mission and values.

·         Foster a service-oriented culture.

·         Evaluate, develop and deploy standardized processes that lead to efficiencies and budget savings.

·         Develop and implement policies and procedures for administrative and academic computer facility usage and governance.

·         Act as a good steward of CIM’s resources and ensures control of department budgets.

Technical Responsibilities

 

Develop strategic IT roadmap and associate suite of application systems capabilities.
Act as Institute IT representative for collaborative initiatives with local, regional, and national affiliations.
·         Evaluate and provide consultation on the technological aspects of distance learning and recording arts and services programs, with an emphasis on hard- and software infrastructure.

·         Oversee the implementation of multiple projects, maintenance and support activities; plan, execute, direct, and complete projects and services and manage within a budget.

·         Oversee and maintain documentation relevant to system configurations including oversight for recordkeeping of licensing agreements and hardware/software inventories for both administrative and academic hardware and software resources.

·         Maintain the integrity of all electronic records of the organization.

·         Establish industry-standard IT security and privacy controls for the Institute, including safeguarding the network and maintaining appropriate Identity Management tools, as well as overseeing appropriate security training for all employees and students.

·         Develop backup systems to ensure ongoing systems during emergencies.

 

Education and Experience

·         Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 7-10 years of related experience, including prior experience managing a department or functional area. MCSA/MCSE, PMP preferred.

·         Experience in higher education or non-profit organizations of similar size or larger.

·         Strategic and critical thinker who values collaboration and communication and understands the shared governance as practiced in an institution of higher education

·         Visionary and inspiring leader with experience managing change.

·         Strong oral and written communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate across a broad range of technical expertise (from both highly technical to completely non-technical audiences)

·         Must be have the ability to develop relationships with peers in similar higher education environments.

·         In-depth knowledge of current and emerging IT infrastructure, service management, user support and training, hardware and software, and data security issues.

·         Experience working with video, audio and production equipment a plus.
