Cleveland Magazine, a publication of Great Lakes Publishing Co., currently has an opening for an Associate Art Director. We are looking for an extremely creative, energetic, organized individual to design and layout printed and graphic materials. A superior understanding of design concepts, typography, photography and software is key; Web design and photography skills are major pluses. The ideal candidate will work well under deadline pressure to perform routine and complex duties in the preparation of Cleveland Magazine and various marketing and Web projects. The position will work closely with the art director and editors of Cleveland Magazine.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Creates concepts and designs that support the editorial mission of Cleveland Magazine
Oversees and directs freelance photographers and illustrators
Creates graphics and designs for clevelandmagazine.com and social media channels
Collaborates with art director and editors
Oversees photography internship program, including recruiting, hiring, training and management
Maintains and organizes in-house photo studio, including tracking of purchases, inventory and overall needs
Discusses pages with editors to ensure accuracy
Maintains and backs up files
Monitors and maintains quality throughout work (maintain quality of standards within Cleveland Magazine and marketing projects)
Maintains art for clevelandmagazine.com, including working closely with editors to plan and create web images
In addition to Cleveland Magazine, creates marketing collateral for Best of Cleveland, Silver Spoons and other magazine events
Takes projects from concept to final delivery
REQUIREMENTS:

2-5 years of design experience, experience in publishing preferable
Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills
Familiar with Mac OS
Knowledge of digital photography and retouching
Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Must take direction and assert ideas quickly
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail necessary in order to handle a number of projects simultaneously
Must work well in a deadline driven environment
BFA or BA in design or equivalent experience
