Holden Forests & Gardens is one of Northeast Ohio’s largest and most important cultural and environmental institutions. It comprises two campuses, the urban Cleveland Botanical Garden campus in Cleveland’s University Circle and the rural Holden Arboretum campus in Kirtland, and is the 12th largest public garden in the US.

We are seeking an Academic Programs Coordinator to join our team. Located at the Cleveland Botanical Garden campus, the Academic Programs Coordinator is responsible for supporting, instructing, and evaluating academic educational programming for students. This position coordinates, trains, and evaluates school group volunteers and assists with the development of other educational programs.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs on-site and off-site plant-based academic educational programs.
  • Assists with research, development and design of academic educational programs, scout programs and teacher resources as needed.
  • Maintains and manages educational materials.
  • Coordinates and supports volunteer/docent involvement including training, supervising, and scheduling.
  • Evaluates programs and tracks their effectiveness using statistical reports, summaries and recommendations to ensure program quality.
  • Assists with planning and participates in community and peer events and campus special events (such as UCI, Fair on the Square, Scouts on the Circle, etc.)
  • Proposes program budget and ensures that approved budget allocations are monitored and managed effectively.
  • Schedules and coordinates all components of education programs including school field trips, school visits, invoicing, etc.
  • Assists with family programming such as summer camps as needed.
  • Represents HF&G at local and professional organizations and presents significant program efforts at regional and national conferences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Education, Biology, Natural Sciences, or related field.
  • Minimum of two years formal classroom experience teaching people of all ages from preschool through 12th grade and/or 2 years of teaching experience in informal education, in a museum, nature center, or equivalent setting.
  • Some experience with budget preparation and analysis, financial management, program development and evaluation, and supervision of volunteers.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe graphics, and ability to quickly learn registration and database systems.
  • Some academic curriculum development preferred.
  • Must be able work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends
