Rose Cox

Rosemary Cox (Rose Cox) grew up in the nurturing arms of family and the Glenville community in Cleveland, Ohio. The soundtrack of her childhood included the sounds of Motown, live jazz in the park on summer days featuring Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Sarah Vaughan, and the resounding voices of history makers such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X. All which stoked her creative appetite for culture, freedom, and imagination.

Rose Cox’s mentors included Elmer Brown, Hal Workman and Jimmie (Jimoko) Moss, who were well respected and renowned artists as well as family friends. As a young artist, Rose would present her wood, oil, and watercolor creations, and share her ideas with her mentors who encouraged her and acknowledged her immense natural talent.

Enamored by the freedom art had given her to create, and inspired by the support of her mentors, Rose enrolled in the reputable and esteemed Cooper School of Art. There she honed her skills as a fine artist and enhanced her knowledge to work with a plethora of mediums.

Upon graduation, Rose’s small apartment became her home and studio. After years of sawing, hammering, and painting in her cozy home, the artist moved her works to a studio space, and she quickly gained recognition by art lovers. They commissioned her to create furniture, paintings, and other works of art from the art space and business she dubbed Uniquely Yours Studio.

Uniquely Yours Studio’s collection expanded further with a jewelry line called Chip off the Old Block. These pieces, made of recycled wood from projects, have been sold across the country.

Rose Cox’s artistry and skills continue to expand through painting, jewelry making, free-form basket weaving, sculpting, and turning and carving wooden bowls and boxes. This artist and Cleveland, Ohio native continues to allow the rhythm of her community and life to be the muse of her unending freedom through creativity.
