Mariama Whyte is a dynamic singer, songwriter, actress and arts educator. Raised in Shaker Heights, Mariama recently starred in the highly-acclaimed “Simply Simone: The Music Of Nina Simone” at Karamu House as well as performed a special Nina Simone Tribute at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in honor of her 2018 Induction. A recipient of The Verge Fellowship presented by Cleveland Arts Prize and CAC, Mariama has played leading roles in the Broadway National Tours of The Lion King and The Color Purple. She has also appeared in various productions throughout Cleveland including Cleveland Play House and Cleveland Public Theatre.  An alum of Shaker Heights High School and The College of Wooster, Mariama has performed on The Oprah Winfrey Show, shared the stage with world-renowned music producer David Foster, Michelle Williams from Destiny’s Child and has opened for highly acclaimed recording artists such as Stephanie Mills, Jeff Bradshaw, and Rahsaan Patterson. Mariama enjoys singing at various venues in the Cleveland area including Nighttown and The Bop Stop.  As a recording artist, she has produced and released independent music projects and is currently working on her new album, “Hey You It’s Me.”  She has been featured as an actress in regional commercials, modeling ads and films.
