Chester Hopkins-Bey

I am an HBCU educated Visual Artist, specializing in conceptual art and graphic communication. I
work with found objects, wood, panels, sculpture, and painting that allow for a variety of artistic
expression and production. My professional and personal journey has also included a variety of
expression and production as I have navigated the artist community and network. I would describe my
creative path as a multicultural patchwork because my chosen profession require ongoing engagement with the outside world and its peoples.

The freedom of communication that art allows helps me create
and witness the various aspects of human expression. I also see art as a more therapeutic and healing
activity that benefits my development as a human being. As a multi-disciplinary artist, I process
information as I research on my subject, I then use this information to build a spiritual framework in
which to tell a story, which include representations, symbolism and tributes to my creative ancestors. I
call this Cosmic Folk Art, because of the natural way it develops and my connection to the ancestors.
