1-3 Hour Sessions at various locations
Salary: $50 Per Hour
Reports To: Program Managers

*We are currently looking for drummers and theatre and visual arts teachers for immediate hire.

Mission
The Foluké Cultural Arts Center (FCAC or Foluké Arts) is committed to building self-esteem, discipline and a drive for excellence among at-risk children and youth through music, dance, drama and arts education; providing professional performance opportunities for program participants, and enhancing an appreciation for cultural an ethnic diversity. Foluke Cultural Arts help children develop critical life skills such as commitment, follow-through, and teamwork.

Overview
Foluké Cultural Arts Teaching Artists play the role of building self-worth through art with the youth. This flexible position includes after-school teaching at Friendly Inn or one of our school partnerships dependent on your schedule and the slots available, and SaturdayARTS programming from 10AM – 3PM.  This semester we have decided to divide the arts discipline focus, having visual (various medium) and media arts (film and photography) in the fall semester, and performing arts in the spring semester.  Each semester the teaching artist and managers must collaboratively decide on a showcase for the youth. The staff must bring incites about what the youth would like to do.

General Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Implement curriculum specific to the students
  • Build rapport with youth and assess their needs
  • Collaborate with youth
  • Ability to build consensus and relationships among staff, artists, and contractors.
  • Collaborate with the team on the development of new productions
  • Provide updates during staff meetings.
  • Come prepared before class time

 

Specific Responsibilities
The following responsibilities are subject to change dependent on age and group. It is suggested that all Teaching Artists review the Ohio Learning Standards before building their curriculum. This process will be collaborative and directly supported:

Theatre
Teach the basics of performance utilizing the actor’s toolbox

  • Use theatre games to start off the day
  • End the day with a debrief to go over what the students learned
  • The youth should be able to:
  1. Give a small monologue
  2. Demonstrate stage crew capabilities

 Dance

  • Teach the basics of specific dance area
  • Stretch and check in at the beginning of class
  • The youth should be able to:
  1. Execute at least two routines

African Drum

  • Teach the basics of music theory
  • Align the basics of beats with actual songs
  • The youth should be able to:
  1. Play consistently for at least 2 minutes
  2. Speak knowledgeably about notes

Visual Arts

  • Teach the basics of color, patterns, and shapes
  • Connect visual arts to their internal self and external life
  • The youth should be able to:
  1. Explain at least 2 concepts they learned
  2. Put together a cohesive piece with intention

 Film

  • Teach the basics of camera use and production
  • Utilize space and story making to create
  • The youth should be able to:
  1. Operate on a set
  2. Understand the basics of editing
  3. Create a 2 minute skit

 Photography

  • Teach the basics of camera use and lighting
  • Utilize youths imagination to create
  • The youth should be able to:
  1. Comprehend lighting and basic camera parts
  2. To take a photo that is clear and shows imagination

 Requirements

2 or more years of experience, Bachelors Preferred, Prevention Certifications would be a plus.

  • Experience working with youth and families
  • Ability to make independent decisions and build consensus as needed
  • Experience with curriculum building
  • Proven capacity to work independently and as a team member
  • Quality written and verbal communication skills
