Rooms To Let: CLE

Why not use vacant homes as canvases for art to engage the community? Rather than letting properties be demolished without any proper farewell, each of the past 5 years Slavic Village Development has recruited nearly 100 artists to turn houses into immersive temporary art exhibits – room by room – creating arguably the most innovative artistic community project in Northeast Ohio. Rooms To Let: CLE is a neighborhood’s effort to resourcefully use the skills of artists and neighbors to make Slavic Village’s spirit shine despite its endured hardships. Our city’s rustbelt roots are evident as artists craft their own style of installation utilizing the existing shabby kitchens, deteriorating bathrooms, caving-in closets, paying homage to the history of the home and community. Rooms To Let: CLE is a communal coping mechanism that is pushing Slavic Village forward.

This year, curators Acerbic, Shari Wilkins of the Print Room and the Visit Arts Collective will be leading teams of artists to transform three houses into immersive art experiences.
